TYPES OF
HAZARD/
EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
Powder, AFFF, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 55░C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 55░C use a closed system, ventilation, and explosion-proof electrical equipment.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE

  • INHALATION
  • Cough. Headache. Laboured breathing. Nausea. Shortness of breath. Sore throat. Vomiting.
Ventilation, local exhaust, or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
  • SKIN
  • Redness. skin burns. Pain. Corrosive. Blurred vision.
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
  • EYES

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS TO WATER-WHITE LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on contact with acids producing toxic fumes (sulfur oxides and carbon monoxide - see ICSC # 0023). Reacts with strong acids and bases, calcium hypochlorite, alkali metals. Note: Oxidizes on exposure to air.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV: 0.5 ppm; 2.3 mg/m3 (as TWA) (ACGIH 1996).

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20░C.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes, the skin, and the respiratory tract. Inhalation of the substance may cause lung oedema (see Notes). The substance may cause effects on the nervous system. The effects may be delayed.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis.
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Boiling point: 168░C
    Melting point: -15░C
    Relative density (water = 1): 1.07
    Solubility in water: none
Vapour pressure, kPa at 18░C: 0.13
    Relative vapour density (air = 1): 3.8
    Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20░C (air = 1): 1.00
    Flash point: <55░C
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA

    N O T E S
Auto-ignition temperature is unknown in literature. An odour threshold of 0.00094 ppm has been reported. Explosive limits are unknown in literature, although the substance is combustible and has a flash point <55░C. Technical grades are usually contaminated with carbon disulfide which lowers flash point.
